Judge Bryan T Fox

Judge Bryan T. Fox serves on the Second Judicial District Court, Family Division, in Bernalillo County. He was appointed by Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham in December 2024 to fill the vacancy left by Judge Gerard J. Lavelle. Bryan brings nearly three decades of diverse legal experience to the bench. He  must now run in the 2026 election to keep his seat on the court and to continue working for us.

Before his appointment, Bryan was President of Wolf & Fox, P.C., where his practice specialized in family law, business and commercial law, employment law, and civil litigation. He represented New Mexicans from all walks of life in divorce, custody, and adoption matters, while also advising businesses on compliance, governance, and dispute resolution. He led the firm’s Employment, Labor, and Benefits Practice Group, which focused on problem prevention and workplace training, and created the Employment Law Institute to help business leaders better understand compliance and employee relations.

Bryan has practiced in the area of family and domestic relations law the entirety of his career. He has used his extensive experience in family law to help New Mexicans from all walks of life. He also has served as a Special Master making recommendations to the courts, an appointed settlement facilitator to assist parties in settling complex domestic relations cases, and as a volunteer with the "Peter Johnstone Settlement Day" helping self-represented litigants navigate the complexities of domestic relations cases.

Bryan developed a Mediation and Settlement Facilitation Program to reduce the expense and stress of litigation by helping families and businesses resolve their disputes outside of court. His reputation for fairness, innovative programs, and practical problem solving led to frequent appointments by courts to serve as a special master, settlement facilitator, and arbitrator.

Born and raised in Albuquerque, Bryan graduated from Del Norte High School, earned his B.A. in Political Science from the University of New Mexico, and received his law degree from the UNM School of Law. He has been a member of the New Mexico bar since 1996.

As a single father, he devoted himself to raising his daughter, balancing work, school, and activities, and he knows firsthand the importance of family stability. That experience deepened his understanding of the challenges families face when they turn to the courts for resolution. With his daughter now grown, he is dedicating his experience and compassion to serving New Mexico families, ensuring that every person who comes before him is heard and treated with respect.

My Commitment to You

“It is an honor to serve the people of New Mexico as a District Court Judge. My career has taught me how deeply legal decisions affect families, businesses, and individuals. I believe every person deserves to be heard with fairness, compassion, and respect. As a judge, my goal is to ensure that every case is resolved with integrity, impartiality, and diligence.” - Judge Bryan T. Fox

Bryan's perspective as a judge is grounded in lessons learned both inside the courtroom and in his own life. Early in his career, while facing his own unemployment insurance benefits appeal, he sat nervously across from a panel of lawyers and supervisors. What could have been an overwhelmingly intimidating process was transformed by the Administrative Law Judge’s calm, steady presence. The judge explained the process with patience, spoke with respect, and made it clear that both sides would be heard fairly. That moment showed him how fairness, respect, and compassion in the courtroom could ease fear and restore dignity, and it inspired him to one day serve on the bench with the same steady commitment.
